Four #1 Seeds in the Final Four is Boring

On the surface, it may seem exciting that all four #1 seeds made it into the Final Four. UCLA, Memphis, Kansas, and North Carolina. Four high-profile programs with legitimate shots to win it all. So why is no one excited about it? Because it is boring.

Remember George Mason? Remember how exciting it was to watch them knowing full well that they were going to get their asses kicked by a better team? That was gripping drama. Why? Because everyone knew they were going to lose.

Hear me out. The most exciting games are those in which one team is assured of victory, and then somehow magically they get upended. The NCAA tournament is always about upsets. We will still remember Western Kentucky's amazing buzzer-beating and Davidson's great run long after we forget who actually wins it all this year. Who won the year Valpo's Bryce Drew made his miracle shot? Does anyone care?

Since no team left can claim the mantle of 'underdog', nobody cares who wins anymore. The only way to make the Final Four entertaining is to drink every time Tyler Hansborough doesn't take a play off. Or get invited to Matt Leinart's Final Four party.
